Managing and Marketing Native Breed Sheep

About Louise Fairburn

Louise and her husband Ian have been breeding Lincolnshire longwools at Risby grange farm since moving there in 2004. From an initial six ewes and a ram, the flock has grown to 70 sheep – almost 10% of the UK Lincolnshire longwools population.

Louise now runs a business based on the breed selling wool, both fleeces and yarns, meat -lamb hogget and mutton, and breeding stock.

The seminar looks at establishing a business based on native breed sheep. It will cover selecting the most appropriate breed and how to find the best animals. It will then go to consider how to go about obtaining produce from the sheep, including wool, meat and breeding stock and how best to market them.
